Get Me to the Church on Time...

Faithful readers of Kharmonious (or...faithful reader?), I need your help!

I've been asked to put together playlists for two wedding receptions this summer. While I've already got a good start on some song choices, I'd like to throw it out there for suggestions. Does anyone know any songs that fit perfectly on a matrimony mix? Both soon-to-be-marrieds have pretty eclectic music tastes, so throw out anything you've got!

Speaking of Ingrid and Twitter...

In conjunction with my last post, I just discovered this amazing little ditty that Ingrid Michaelson posted on her blog last month. Apparently at one point you could download it for free (though I can't seem to find a download anymore). You can still stream it for free though; check it out:

She just cracks me up. And Twitter should probably pay her or something (especially if Dell won't).

Twitter, Twitterer, Tweet?

I signed up for a Twitter account a month or two ago and let it sit idle. Honestly, I was scared of it. I didn't know what to do with it. My understanding of Twitter was that it was like Facebook updates on speed. Finally, a program that lets me tell all my friends exactly what I'm doing every second of the day!

Personally, I found that a little narcissistic.

However, in the last couple weeks I've decided to give Twitter another shot. I've discovered that it has many uses beyond the one above. Because I'm into the publishing industry, I can follow Publisher's Weekly and Publisher's Lunch on Twitter. I can follow NPR and CNN and stay caught up on the headlines. And, best of all (and most applicable to this blog), I can find new music on Twitter. In addition to being able to follow the big music folk (MTV, CMA, etc), there is this great program called twtfm.

Twtfm is a great way to find new (and old music). It's basically just a venue for sharing music. It allows you to post streaming audio of your current musical obsession and lets you hear streaming audio of your friends' current musical obsessions. If you go to http://twt.fm/tracks, you can view a list of the most recently tweeted (I still can't really handle that it's calling tweeting...) songs. Check it out. Find some new music. Then join the Twitter bandwagon.

P.S. Even if I do use Twitter for legitimate things, I might still be guilty of a slightly narcissistic post now and again.

Facebook Album Cover

This isn't really a post about music per se, so I apologize.

There's all these chain mail type things going around Facebook right now. You've probably either created or at least read "25 Random Things." While the 25 things started it all, it hasn't ended there. Every few days I get tagged in random notes asking me to perpetuate them. Most of these are mildly amusing but don't intrigue me enough to take the time to do them. However, earlier this evening I was tagged in a photo. It was actually an album cover designed by a friend by following these instructions:

1 - Go to Wikipedia. Hit “random”
or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to Quotations Page and select "random quotations"
or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote on the page is the title of your first album.

3 - Go to Flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”
or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 - Use Photoshop or similar to put it all together.

5 - Post it to FB. Copy these rules text in the "caption" or "comment" and TAG the friends you want to join in.

My friend's album cover looked pretty awesome, and I was looking for reasons to not do homework, so I did it. Sadly, my album cover came out pretty lame...I blame flickr's poor choice of photo...

See? Who would buy this album (besides maybe sweet little old grandmas, though I doubt they would want to listen to a band called the Ebionites..)?

Despite being disappointed by my album design, it was pretty fun and made me think more about how album designs are created. I'd love to see anyone else's designs. If you make one, post it here.
